DEMOCRATIZING QUALITY: BEYOND THE BUZZWORD, INTO REALITY

This keynote discusses the move away from siloed QA towards shared quality across all stakeholders, to enable faster delivery and higher quality. By exposing the flaws of siloed QA (bottlenecks, late bugs) and highlighting the benefits of democratized quality (speed, better products, stronger teams), it provides a path to implement this crucial shift and recover a once-fundamental testing skill.

Takeaways from this talk

Democratized quality, a core testing principle, offers benefits such as faster delivery, higher quality, and stronger teams. The testing industry is rediscovering this essential skill, and the keynote will explain how to implement this crucial shift

THE MISUNDERSTOOD TEST PYRAMID OR HOW I STOPPED TESTING EVERYTHING AT END TO END LEVEL

Takeaways from this talk

Learn how to properly setup your tests (and test automation) to test things at the lowest level of the test pyramid, to be as efficient as possible.

  • Be reminded that sorting and/or filtering a table are mostly API tests, not UI tests
  • Introduction to Selenium Webdriver BiDi as a way to confirm that they UI is making the right API calls, (something that was previously only possible in Cypress and Playwright)
  • Quick intro on how to do integration testing at UI level with modern test frameworks

INNOVATING TEST AUTOMATION WITH PLAYWRIGHT AT GOTO

Discover how GoTo leverages Playwright to revolutionize test automation, ensuring high-quality and reliable software for our innovative calling solutions. Our flagship product, GoTo Connect, is developed by over 300 dedicated professionals, including Developers, DevOps, Product Managers, and UX Designers. Learn about our robust framework, effective scripting practices, and the democratization of testing across our teams. We’ll explore trends in test automation, the integration of Playwright into our CI/CD pipeline, and how we use analytics and intelligent testing to continuously improve our strategies. Additionally, we’ll discuss the role of test automation in supporting agile development and enhancing user experience.

In this talk, I will share two concrete examples of how we use Playwright across different teams in the company. The first example will focus on validating a frontend page, ensuring that our user interfaces are intuitive and error-free. The second example will delve into the backend, demonstrating how we validate call management when calls enter our system. This includes creating realistic scenarios using third-party integrations to ensure robust and reliable call handling.

Takeaways from this talk

Benefits of Playwright: Understand the advantages of using Playwright for test automation, including its capabilities in handling modern web applications and increasing automated test coverage.

  • Effective Scripting Practices: Gain insights into how integrating Playwright into our CI/CD pipeline ensures tests are executed periodically and after every pull request merge, helping us catch discrepancies quickly and avoid potential outages.
  • Democratization of Testing: Learn how Playwright’s accessibility allows developers of all skill levels to contribute to automated testing efforts, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and shared responsibility for quality.
  • Analytics and Intelligent Testing: Discover how Playwright provides detailed test reports and insights, enabling data-driven decision-making and continuous enhancement of testing strategies.
  • Agile Development Support: See how Playwright’s flexibility and ease of use allow us to quickly add new automated tests as part of our agile sprints, ensuring every new feature or change is thoroughly tested.
  • User Experience Enhancement: Understand the importance of automating user experience testing to ensure our applications provide a seamless and intuitive experience for users, and how Playwright helps us quickly identify and address any issues that may impact the user experience.
  • Concrete Examples: Learn from two specific use cases: validating a frontend page to ensure a smooth user interface, and validating backend call management by creating realistic scenarios with third-party integrations.

MULTI-EXPERIENCE TESTING IN SOFTWARE RELEASE

Multi-experience testing ensures a consistent and seamless user experience across various digital touchpoints, such as mobile, web, and wearables, by testing software across different platforms and interaction methods. It’s crucial for delivering unified experiences and addressing the complexities of modern user journeys.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

What it is:

Beyond traditional testing:

Multi-experience testing goes beyond testing individual platforms and focuses on how users interact with the software across multiple devices and interfaces.

Seamless experience:

The goal is to ensure that users have a consistent and intuitive experience, regardless of whether they’re using a mobile app, a web browser, or a wearable device.

Comprehensive testing:

This type of testing covers various aspects like performance, usability, and functionality across different platforms.

Takeaways from this talk

How to balance the the different types of tests to better cover all the features in a release and do not face regressions issues of software in a base of installed clients
